The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, ‘Maama’ Janet Kataaha Museveni, appointed Saturday, 15th March 2025, as the commencement date for the TVET Act 2025 to come into effect, as per its publication in the Gazette on 14th March 2025.

The TVET Act has introduced numerous changes to the Vocational Skilling and Training System in Uganda. Among them is the merger of the Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB) and the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) into the Uganda Vocational and Technical Assessment Board (UVTAB).

The joint force of the two merged bodies is expected to create a new era and drive change in Uganda’s Vocational Skilling and Training System, ensuring quality assessment for employable skills and good service delivery in order for the Vocational Skilling and Training to remain one of the pillars in shaping the workforce.
